Candle Care & Tips

Candle maintenance and safety is important to get the most out of each Sotto candle that you purchase, including maintaining long-lasting scent throw.

Candles become hot when lit so pay attention!

While this seems obvious, the heat produced by a lit candle can cause damage and even death. Make sure to always burn on a level, fire-resistant surface.  Burn within sight and keep away from children and pets!

Prevent candle tunneling and ensure an even burn

To prevent tunneling from the start, allow the candle to burn long enough to melt the top layer of the wax, allowing the pool of melted wax to extend all the way to the edge of the jar before extinguishing.  This may take 2-3 hours!  This helps prevent a tunnel from forming and maximizes scent throw.

Keep your candle away from air drafts and open windows to keep the flame steady and promote an even burn.

Regularly trim candle wicks

Make sure to trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting for the first time. Additionally, you should trim the wick regularly to the same 1/4" height after every burn.  Allow the candle to cool, then trim the wick straight across.

Regular trimming allows for maximum scent throw each time the candle is lit. It also helps prevent the flame from growing too tall, which can increase the risk of fire.  A healthy flame should be no higher than 1/5" to 1'.

Additional Information

Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time, set a timer if you need help remembering!

Stop using your candle when 1/4" of wax remains.

You can repurpose the candle jar if you want by removing the excess wax, hand washing and drying!
